Edit: Kuro Bar & Restaurant is no longer located at Clarke Quay. I’m not sure if they’re still in business. If anybody has news of them, let me know and I’ll update here.
I know a few posts ago, I mentioned that I was getting tired of the nightlife scene in Singapore. Unfortunately, I also happen to be one of those annoyingly excitable people. So as it turned out, awhile back, I managed to spend a FANTASTIC night out down at Clarke Quay, in the company of the lovely Rach who cusses like a sailor, the headbanging boyf, and Tabula!
Because I’m not the music expert around here, I procured a quote from boyf. They are a band that really feels what they play, and sound really good together. They don’t try to overshadow the other. Instead they complement each other to sound just. So. Fucking. Good.- le boyf
The songs that Tabula plays are totally up this girl’s alley. A mishmash of Top 40’s, new + old school rock, and grunge, there were some mainstream pieces that were fun to bop our heads to, but it was the hardcore stuff that really got our bloods pumpin’. Le boyf went crazy when they played:
1. Song2 – Blur
2. Give It Away – Red Hot Chili Peppers and
3. The ultimate highlight – a 45 seconds long snippet of Bulls On Parade by Rage Against The Machine. You hardly EVER get any band that plays RATM, and do it so well.
This band is made of Pure. Awesome.
So, whilst writing this post, I had a bit of an internal struggle. The OCD in me needed to arrange the photos in order of LOCATION, EVENT, and then PEOPLE. But I thought I’d make an exception because I really enjoy Tabula and I want them to be seen first :) For real :)
I wish that we’d manage to get a closer table though. Because we, not wanting to come off as groupies, chose a table that was far enough to not look like we were actually groupies (which come on, we are, just admit it the both of you).
One of the many bars outside.
It really was kinda empty when we arrived at about seven-ish. If you do plan on dropping by for an impromptu dinner without reservations, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get a table between 7-8pm. Sarcasm not intended.
Now, on to the second best thing about KB & R… FOOD!
Can we please talk about this beef roll sushi thing for a moment, THAT’S SO AMAZING, I had to take a second close-up shot, JUST to make sure that you get to see the tender, juicy beef slices, coated with sweet Teriyaki sauce and topped with a generous dollop of Mayonnaise.
Seriously, I’ve never tried beef + sushi before. Is that how you even describe it? I don’t know. But anyway it’s like, what gives, that combo is just weird, right? Um…NOPE! This just blows my tastebuds away, seriously. I mean that in the best way ever.
I still don’t enjoy large, crowded places anymore. But sometimes, we all gotta let loose, and get a little cray-cray, ya know? In fact, I have to apologise if I sound a bit drunk now, (although I’m not. I just can’t hear myself think). That’s because MD and I are currently on a Slipknot youtube video marathon. YOIKES
Anyway, here’s to a teeny little bit of cray, in the middle of an otherwise drab work week :)Catch Tabula in action
